Apparently it's possible to run full Windows games on Android now. Not streaming or anything. Literally running on the device, albeit older ones, and at low settings, but still...

I wonder if ojisans felt how I'm feeling about this when it became possible able to play PS1 games on their PSP (´・ω・`)

Why would I play games on my phone when I have a desktop PC?

Because handhelds like this exist, and it's neat being able to play what were AAA games anywhere and everywhere, especially laying in bed.

I've had this handheld for about a week. I really love the form factor, but I can't help but feel like it really deserved a better processor. Unfortunately, Mediatek Mali GPUs just have nowhere near the level of Android driver support that Snapdragon Adreno GPUs have. I got it after comparing synthetic GPU benchmarks and seeing it should have been much more powerful than my phone's Adreno GPU. I was really hoping to be able to do Switch emulation. My phone can manage like 20 FPS in BoTW, and seeing the GPU of this handheld be like ~30% faster I was really hoping that with the right combination of settings I would be able to see playable speeds. But, nope. The drivers just aren't there. I was really, really hoping and imagining I'd see like 30FPS. Instead... I get like... 8 FPS.

Likewise, like with this. On Winulator, I actually can manage to load Fallout as you can see, but there's terrible artifacts and I had to find the particular settings that would even allow it to run in the first place. Beyond the weird texture geometry glitches, the text is also just missing in menus and dialogue! But on my less powerful phone, because it actually has proper driver support... It runs fine! It's kind of infuriating that this a thing. I never would have imagined that Android actually has issues with GPU driver support until now.

On the bright side... Most things are supported just fine because Android mostly seems to use Vulkan for universal graphics compatibility, but man... the things that just don't work are so disappointing.

Forgot to mention, it is so incredibly disappointing that Nintendo killed the Yuzu Switch emulator and made them hand over the source code. In the last few months they were working on it, they added support for Mediatek Mali GPUs and went from being unusable to working decently. I can only imagine if it was still in development today that support would have been much better and this little device could have been in the state I was imagining it to be. Now, it's hard to imagine that Switch emulation will recover on Android in any amount of time. Nintendo probably pushed Android-based Switch emulator development back by 3-5 years. There's weird Yuzu forks floating around that seem to get shut down but none of them are really any better than the final version of Yuzu. I found one that claimed to have custom drivers for Mali GPUs but it didn't perform any better, and I found someone commenting that the logs mentioned the drivers they supplied weren't even loading and it was falling back to the default driver. Just absolutely nightmarish the difference 6 months could have made.

Sorry, I lied. It's more like 15-18 FPS with dips down to 12 FPS. It's got a Snapdragon 855
