less than half a year left until that LOTR anime comes out and all they have released to the public so far are a couple of animation frames and some concept art

makes me think that the producers don't have much confidence in this

 No.33022

there's a lotr anime?

 No.33027

it looks like they showed it in a festival and had a positive reception but yeah it's pretty odd stuff

 No.33029

Is it a real Japanese-produced anime or one of those things where a Western studio adds anime to the name since people have lost all confidence in it otherwise?

Japanese director and studio. Everything else is made by gaijin.

I'm surprised they actually went for a real anime art style and not something more Western looking more akin to Avatar and Castlevania. Middle Earth is such a Western-centric fandom that I feel that the art style will be a major turn off for a lot of fans and people who watched the movies.

An 'anime' of LOTR... lmao

Not sure how i feel about the animation in the trailer, it looks like it should be decent but I don't like the style. The plot seems alright too, I hope it's more like a Mulan story than the girlboss rings of power story. Maybe there will be actually character growth and struggle.

Oh, now I see what they did.

...through the eyes of legendary director Kenji Kamiyama....
...New Line Cinema’s original anime feature “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.

They introduced the Japanese director at the beginning and called it anime so people are fooled into thinking it's something it's not. Extremely choppy CGI with that that Western "anime imitation" look (like Castlevania and others) and the voices completely lack emotion. What the hell is with English VAs past 2002 or so? Rune Factory 4 and Neptunia are like the only English voice casts I like since then. Well, and Fromsoft stuff.
It's a paired work between Warner Brothers and these guys that seem to specialize in Western IPs: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sola_Digital_Arts
I can't say I have any positive thoughts about this. The movie trilogy will remain unblemished in my memories, though.

hmm maybe I should have said something like 2008 or so.. I think there's some good English VA casts in the 00s.

Too much CGI and choppy animation for a proper film. They should've made it a TV series instead.

Also I take back what I said earlier, the art does look a lot like Korra.
