That makes sense. I haven't been there since I was little, but I remember Oslo being packed with tourists during the summer.
You should try some of the local "everyday" cuisine while you're there: kjøttkaker, fiskegrateng, komle, flesk og duppe... You've probably heard about the infamous lutefisk and smalahove, but that's not something people eat very often -- or enjoy for that matter.

i'm thinking about picking up growing cacti as a hobby. a few days ago i noticed one of my neighbors had some san pedro growing on his garden, so i asked him if i could cut some for planting. he said yes despite not really knowing each other which was kind. turns out san pedro is very easy to grow: you cut a decent chunk that you then cut into smaller segments of about 5-7 centimeters, then wait for them to dry for 2-3 weeks since they have water inside. after they dried up, place the chunks in a flower pot with soil that preferably has some sand mixed in, and wait for 2 months for the cacti to put down its roots.
i like the idea of growing something that is low maintenance but still fun to take care of. plus, in a few years i'll be able to cut it and enjoy their very strong psychoactive effects (san pedro has a number of alkaloids, most notably mescaline)

Had a great conversation with an older Uber driver today. Guy said he was 75, but didn't look a day over 65. Most Uber rides I've had have been pretty awkward and silent, but I had a good time talking this time. We didn't talk about anything particularly noteworthy, but it was still enjoyable.

It's really not that bad. I use it fairly often out of necessity and haven't had any problems. Every time when you get connected with a driver it'll show their average rating and how many trips they've taken. I haven't seen a driver have less than a couple thousand trips. If anything does get dicey though, the app has a "safety" button thing to silently contact the police I think.

In general, though, I think thinking like this stems from paranoia of others. Just think about people living in a city and how many people you have to trust not to murder you. How many complete strangers you might ride alongside in a bus or subway, or even going to school and how many hundreds of people you'd be around daily. The world is a lot safer than we're made to believe so being worried about incredibly rare things doesn't really do you any good.

No. The first one was about drowning. The second one was about being stalked by some kind of monster. The third one was about an earthquake. The second one greatly distressed me. I kept trying to open my eyes but it was as though the monster was preventing me from waking up with the power it has over reality, including the real world. That monster was like God, perfect and complete control over past and future. I was given a special gun designed specifically to defeat the monster, but the monster decided that the gun is ineffective and it became so. The monster writes all the rules. Every single other person I encountered was actually just the monster disguising itself. Meaning that even the whole sidequest to get the special gun was all a fabrication to begin with. It's like being in a thread with 10 people, but all ten of them are just the same person typing really fast, and that person is also the moderator. I don't know why simply thinking about that monster is making me panic right now. It was all just a dream.

Coming to terms with the fact that my manga idea was never that good to begin with. All of the interesting scenes are locked behind a bunch of scenes I'm sure no one would care about, since I already don't care about those scenes. Without passion, boring scenes become even more boring and kill the whole thing. No wonder I keep putting off drawing...
But if I don't create this specific story, I will be thinking about it even on my deathbed. So I HAVE to eventually create it somehow.

Certainly not specific questions like, "Write a python program that uses the requests library to send a HTTP request with JSON payload to the Stable Diffusion Web UI, and then take the resultant file path of the image generated and upload it to catbox.moe"

I would imagine ChatGPT would just flail aimlessly spitting out vaguely related code that uses the requests library, but otherwise would have no idea how to do things like formatting the JSON payload, or how to parse the response.

People rave a lot about semantics when talking about untranslatability, but that's a sham. The real impossibility is wordplay, because it's based on the internal rules of the language and how its pieces relate to each other. Meaning can be transposed, but relations can only be adapted or emulated.
Or ditched entirely.

what's the difference between a service and a server

A server is a computer or a software program that provides a service to other computers or devices on a network. Servers can provide a wide range of services, such as file sharing, email, web hosting, database management, and more. In general, a server is a machine or application that is designed to provide resources or services to other computers or devices on a network.

A service, on the other hand, is a software component that runs on a server and provides a specific function or set of functions. Services can include things like web servers, email servers, database servers, and more. Services typically run continuously in the background, waiting for requests from clients, and then processing those requests as needed.

In summary, a server is a machine or application that provides resources or services to other computers or devices on a network, while a service is a software component that runs on a server and provides a specific function or set of functions.

Using the OpenAI demo:

A service and a server are related concepts but have different meanings.

A server is a computer or a program that provides services or resources to other computers or programs on a network. Servers can provide various types of services, such as file sharing, email, web hosting, database management, and more. In essence, a server is a machine or software that accepts requests from clients and responds to those requests by providing the requested resources or services.

On the other hand, a service is a type of software that runs on a server and provides a specific functionality or feature to clients. Examples of services include web services, email services, cloud services, and database services. Services can be provided by servers, but not all servers provide services. For example, a server can be used solely for data storage, without providing any services to clients.

To summarize, a server is a machine or software that provides resources or services to clients, while a service is a specific type of software that runs on a server and provides a particular functionality or feature to clients.

i think i may have a small degree of dyslexia, or maybe i'm just too scatterbrained and read out of the corner of my eyes too much. more often than not i have to double check a particular word in a sentence and it ends up changing. for instance, if i see the word "insulation" i may read "inflation" first without noticing. i've also noticed that my brain often replaces words with sexual ones, so maybe besides being scatterbrained i have too much cum in my brain. "inflation" was just an example, i'm not into inflation...

tl;dr: It's fun, play it if the aesthetics and premise interest you at all.
Pretty much every level has several unique gimmicks, and almost none of them are reused. IMO most of the levels are very well designed, there's only a few that I wasn't a fan of, and there were none that I thought were outright bad.
The controls feel a bit clumsy at first due to just how much stuff you can do, but after a while it becomes second nature and satisfying to utilize the entire moveset available.
I've heard some critique that the speedrunning aspect of the game is at odds with the exploration, but I disagree. You aren't forced to go fast unless if you're trying to go for the top ranks or get some achievements. There is a timer for each level's escape sequence, but it's so lenient that I've only ever ran out of time once. That was early on when I got confused where to go next for about 30 seconds, and I think there's been a patch recently that makes the intended route more clear for that level.

I am not sure if I can play this game, the mechanic is that the sister you kiss the most brings you your afternoon snack but I just found that if there is a tie it just skips that section all together. The issue is that there is no branching dialogue so the kiss opportunities are railroaded, meaning that I have to NOT kiss my beautiful and adorable little sisters when every time I feel there would be nothing better than to do so. Its troubling that in the game about kissing your little sisters you have to intentionally deny most of their kisses.

Last PC parts I needed were delivered today, but packages go into the building office for pickup. Today's hours were from 8PM to 10PM. Surprise! I go down to pick my stuff up and the office is closed. They were open from 8:30AM to 4PM today and were able to give me a package I received yesterday but didn't give me the stuff that came today. I was hoping I would be able to pick everything up and assemble my PC before the Konosuba stream started. I went to talk to the front desk assistant and they told me that the office worker on duty (who lives in the building) wasn't willing to come down. They had been clear that the office would be closed for all of next week, so I even made sure to get overnight shipping so that everything would come today. I even gave the front desk an authorization code thing so that my package wouldn't be delayed until tomorrow because it's a high value item and needed additional verification alongside a signature. The office is already only open on weekdays so that means I won't be able to pick everything up until the Monday after next. 10 days, March 20. While I could have been watching the Konosuba stream I was instead sending futile emails in the hopes that someone, anyone, would see them and actually get off their ass and come downstairs. All because some asshole was too lazy to get on an elevator and unlock a door so that I could pick my stuff up because they wanted to get their week off 2 hours earlier.

Words cannot properly express the depth of my frustration.

i previously used an ancient wifi card i scrapped from somewhere for it, but it was so bad that i could only got 1MB/s, and often times worse at 100-200KB/s which made it impossible to watch video

My neighbour came over and told us that he is sick of our cat going into his yard and that the council is introducing a law soon that means we aren't allowed to have more than 2 cats(he thinks we have 3 but we have 4) and that our cats aren't allowed to go on other people's property without their permission and that they don't have his permission so once the law comes in we will be in trouble. But cat's do what they want, we can't tell them where they can and can't go and they won't be happy at all if they have to be locked up...

This comes after the other neighbour warned us to lock our cats up at night(which we always do anyway) because he was sitting traps for feral cats in the area.

I live in Australia. You get people here that absolutely hate cats and say they should not be here and complain that they kill native birds.
Which is true but it's also area dependent and we lock our cats up at night. We are in the suburbs, there are no endangered native birds threatened by our cats. He blamed our cats for killing a family of ducks and some blue tongue lizards which they did not and blue tongues are not even endangered and those ducks are not endangered either.

>>108627
I support biodiversity, this is why we should introduce more species to Australia. How can it be diverse if we don't even have a proper apex predator?

>>108626
>>108629
I hope not... I think he won't, he is too by the book. He is the kind of person that calls the council to complain about everything he does not like and tries to get them to do something about it. When we first moved in the first thing he wanted us to do was write a letter to the council and complain and join his campaign about some issue with the design of septic systems in the modern houses that are being build to get it changed.
Some people should not be allowed to retire.

Cats destroying birds and thus ecosystems is a serious problem, though. Pet cats kill BILLIONS of birds every year for fun because their owners just let them wander around as semi-pets that do their own thing. Cats are great, but the people that let them just wander around the neighborhood are, well, not very good neighbors and they've have a terrible effect on local wildlife.
It sucks enough if a neighbor's pet enters your yard to destroy stuff and poop in it, but it's another thing if you can't hear birds in the morning because the local cats have driven them all away

that's what I thought of too while writing that post, but then I thought this:
wouldn't it be better to just store links inside the post content (as you need to anyway, because links can appear anywhere inside the post) and then generate posts it links to client-side?
Then again, this makes cross-board links difficult to implement, so I guess in that case a relation like that makes sense

Maybe that's the answer? Not all imageboards are the same and for some a no-sql approach can be fitting. Though I still don't see why you should bother, sql is just easier for me personally, and there's always the possibility that you'll want to add some feature that requires relations later on

I used to be a developer for a certain project. It's weird how people are, when something new first comes out, and is well-received, you have a lot of respect and people talking about how it otherwise made them happy, made some positive change, or doing cool stuff with it like drawing art or whatever else.

But as time goes on, people start taking the work that went into it for granted. You're rarely shown gratitude or respect anymore, and changes are both demanded and expected to be done without any concern for the person who works on these things.

It's a little sad since I used to see them as friends in a way. I think I understand why some game devs usually do the bare minimum of interaction with their fanbase now.

Me, I'm pretty satisfied with my job. Even though people always go "how didn't QA catch this bug???" I know I reported that shit five months ago and it's not my fault it got backlogged. I take joy in moments like when I go HMMMMM this is kinda not great and then the players hate it and I feel very validated, or when I made a loadout so broken I talked the devs into nerfing it pre-release. Just fooling around, going for the edgiest cases, making text look like it's tanasinn, or even when I have to write about the correct color shade this button should have when you're mousing over it, it's still good to see it bear fruit even though the users won't ever thank me for any of it.

I'm not saying this is true for your project, I don't know what it even was.
But to be the devils advocate. There are a lot of projects that get released to the public in a very early and rudimentary state and promise the world to the player only to be in development for years with very little progress made. So in that case players will praise it at first but then turn against it.

People also are most hostile and vocal towards ideas they like the most. Total War is one of my favourite franchises and it's a game idea that nobody else has replicated, so I am very critical of the newer releases but that's because of how invested I am into this franchise. It's far worse to see a game you like make bad decisions than to see a game you never really cared about do the same.

I setup Unbound for resolving DNS queries locally but it's sooo slow ;_;

I'm not sure how to feel about this. People have said that if you wait a ~1 week, it'll build up a cache and perform as fast as a standard DNS host, but my first time lookups feel EXTREMELY sluggish. Like >200ms, which is kind of unacceptable. Normal DNS hosts are typically 20ms at worst. 200ms might not sound bad, but when you realize that a single website might have a dozen or more links to CDNs, it compounds to website loading times taking >1 second load times compared to typical <150ms loads.

Been setting up my laptop as a home server and I'm learning that managing all of the different web services and databases is very annoying... It seems like every single program juggles between exclusively working with either MySQL, Postgresql, MariaDB, or SQLite and the solution is essentially just to have every single database type because nobody wants to support more than two databases... I've been trying to use Docker to containerize everything and also make everything as reasonably portable as I can, but it's been quite annoying... Getting Uguu to work was super annoying. I'm currently thinking about setting up an email server to aggregate random messages, but that seems super annoying. What I'd _like_ to do is set up Postal, use Roundcube as the front-end, and then maybe use Proxmox mail gateway to filter mail (Just for fun, none of my stuff is outwards facing to the public internet). But geez... Setting up Postal seems like its the worst out of everything so far: tons of dependencies, requires manual compilation to create a docker image, has poor documentation for setup, the docker compose and general docker environment options is undocumented, requires its own database, and it requires a separate web server like nginx or apache (because the image doesn't come bundled with one, nor does it build one with the dockerfile). Mainly I want this to manage my various other web services that ask for an email, and also to check error reporting like getting disk health messages and so on, but geeeeeeez.

At least by the end of this ordeal I'll have a nice little home intranet going with automatic torrent acquisition, easy file-sharing between devices, DNS filtering with my own local DNS (as well as custom DNS records to redirect "192.168.1.5:8080" -> coolservice.home.arpa), email service for checking how all of these things are doing, virtual machines for fun, AI stuff, 2FA auth and so many other things. Not to mention in-home streaming of media. The biggest thing I'm hurting on is RAM... 32GB feels really tight with all of these services running and also multiple virtual machines all running on a single device.

Squirrel season opened a couple weeks ago for me but I still haven't found time and the mood to step out.
If you've never done it before, I recommend squirrel since they can be taken with pellet rifles, rimfire (17, 22) rifles, or even shotguns by a novice fairly easy and they are quick and simple to clean.
They're a great foundation to start.

I don't much care for shooting dove either. Feathers are a bit of a pain to deal with. You can stick to claybirds like me for that and it's quite satisfying.

Took out most of the components of my VRTX blade server so that the chassis is mostly clear inside. Might take out the main board later. I am planning on clamping two pieces of wood on either side of the walls and then either hammering the bend out to the best of my ability or I guess seeing if my clamps have enough clamping force to be able to flatten out the bent areas by themselves.

Private trackers to me seem really evil that gatekeep people who are interested in the content and fails to keep out copyright trolls. I remember Japan once made a public list of every single anime piracy site out there to make it clear that they're watching, and every anime private tracker was on their list. No doubt they have people managing to get access there as well.
I exclusively only use public trackers. They don't frustrate and cause problems for people who want to download or seed without joining a public secret club.
The fact that sometimes you want only good releases, I understand, but just make the uploading part private then and let everyone else seed what they want. It just seems so pointless and narcissistic as a concept. Many of the private trackers even forbid certain publishers because they know they'll get into trouble anyways so the private part is just nonsense elitism and actively hostile to fans.

That said I wouldn't mind finding invites one day to grab releases that aren't publicly available and recreating the torrent with public trackers only and seeding it for normal people (credit to original releaser of course, begrudgingly)...

Update:
I picked English because it's pretty much the only thing I am good at academically, and an English teacher was one of the best influences in my life during my education. I very much enjoy reading; my parents kind of liked it, and my dad said it could allow me to travel like I've always wanted to. He made a joke about me going to Japan, but then said that I would realistically be going somewhere else. My mother said this is good to do while you're young, and if I don't like it or don't make enough money, I can always go back to get post-graduate education, as undergraduate degrees are kind of flexible. They both stressed I could always come back (I think to stress they didn't suggest this job to get rid of me?)

I have mixed feelings on this. 1. I would love to travel, especially now that it is getting too expensive for most people. I could have a fascinating life. 2. I've struggled with depression in the past, and it would be weird to have an episode overseas, but this apparently is less of an issue outside of East Asia now, and also because 3. I have nobody else; I'm a loner with only my parents as friends. Not only that, but I don't know if this would be good or bad to help me socialize. I have been told that reading books on how to socialize is necessary. 5. There's also the possibility that AI could make language learning and writing skills obsolete, although this is unlikely. 6. On a more positive note, I would have the same positive influence on others that that English teacher did for me and give them a love of language and reading.

The university I'm going to has pamphlets on this and apparently has connections in France, the UAE, and China. The UAE is the best-paying, and China has "please relocate here" incentives like paying for housing.

If you care, what do you think?

 No.111614

>>111612
I have heard that China is terrible and that westerners who work there end up hating it, Taiwan is better but Taiwan does not need English teachers as their own English is pretty good.

I think going to Japan to teach English is pretty easy, all you need is a bachelors, so I heard. Other than that France is nice depending on where you go and culturally it's closer and less alien to us. UAE seems like somewhere I would never want to go(well I stopped over in their airport once so technically I have already been there but still).

If you want to meet people France is probably your best bet, they are very open and friendly whereas apparently it's hard to make friends in Japan(aside from with other English teachers) and China is probably similar.

It's possible that AI will change the landscape but I'm not sure, while the Japanese all seem to learn English in school very few seem to be able to speak it and the same is probably true for China and France, meaning that it's more a formality than anything else and AI should not change much. But I have no idea.

I don't do that but if a thought about something I hate flashes into my head I have to think about something else before I do even basic tasks like opening a webpage or turning on a light for example, and sometimes I might vocalise that or I will say something completely unrelated to anything to stop me thinking about something I don't like while I do something so that I don't have to then redo that thing all over again(because if I do something while thinking about something I don't like I have to redo it).

when i was saying "serious" he understood me as saying as "seduce," and now i've figured out why

what caused the confusion is that i personally realize /i/ as [j] in prevocalic position, and he flapped /d/ into [ɾ], which is coincidentally what i mistakenly pronounced in place of [ɹ]
i don't have a schwa either
