The winter season is upon us. It will be difficult to match the quality of the autumn season, but hopefully there's some good stuff to watch.

Dungeon Meshi and MahoAko are obligatory, and I'm sure the stream is gonna pick up UY again, so looking forward to those.

Meiji Gekken falls into the same cool time period as Kenshin, but the trailer wasn't terribly convincing. On the opposite side of the spectrum, Sengoku Youko doesn't sound too interesting to me but the preview's animation is awesome and it's gonna be THREE COURS LONG WHAT
>Aired: Jan 11, 2024 to Sep 2024
A complete adaptation of the whole thing, apparently. Helck and Dead Mount lowered my expectations for longer running stuff but that's still very impressive.

I'm guessing this is sorted by popularity in which people clearly have NO taste if Jashin and Mahou Shoujo sekuhara are that low! But aside from that I'm surprised I heard nothing about Tsukimichi s2, that was one of the more enjoyable isekai. Solo Levelling being at the top makes sense that the masses are gushing to slurp up the latest in popular slop.

Yeah, default listing and now that I look it is indeed "popularity". I don't think anyone is surprised an isekai/MMO thing is the number one in popularity, right?
I used English titles because I wanted everyone to appreciate the trashy names like "Solo Leveling" and "My Instant Death Ability Is So Overpowered, No One in This Other World Stands a Chance Against Me!", but if people want Japanese ones I could do it next time.

I hope they had enough time to animate things and/or have more of a budget. In the first season the passion was definitely there and there's still greatly animated moments, but they really had to cut corners quite a few times. I assume that the characters having identifiable faces (including noses!) probably contributes to the time it takes to animate stuff. Best OP of its season (which I even uploaded at the time >>103164), too and I hope the second one can be half as good.
I might rewatch it, although I imagine there will be a recap of sorts.
People better not vote S2 out of the stream!

 No.117771

File:Untitled.jpg (160.93 KB,958x992)

I'm nominating Sengoku Youko for the stream in advance. It's a great manga by Mizukami Satoshi, the same guy who made Hoshi no Samidare and Spirit Circle.
You may remember Hoshi no Samidare from around a year ago in the stream (it was called Lucifer and the biscuit hammer), but that was just a really shit adaptation of another great manga, however, looking at the PV and studio (same studio that did utawarerumono!!) for Sengoku Youko, it will probably be a really good adaptation this time!
Anyway, Sengoku Youko is overall a serious story, with a lot of emotional moments, but all the characters interact in pretty fun ways most of the time. It's both dramatic and fun, so it'll probably be really good for the stream.
Also it has a cute kemonomimi girl

I guess it's about time I start looking at the shows, huh. Presumably the relatively isolated earthquake isn't going to have any effect on anything here.
The Urusei Yatsura continuation is one of the safest bets ever. I only hope David Studio is able to handle Undead Unluck and this at same time. One studio is pretty much going to make the winter season for me.

I can see Solo Leveling being a guilty pleasure.
At surface level it's a "video games but in real life!" premise with gore and violence. But there's an actual nice story of the weakest becoming the strongest and breaking a caste system. Though, even if it is a caste system, the people around him aren't mean to him because he's' weak, so it doesn't feel like a teen-angst rebel against society thing, but rather an actual story about someone breaking God's rules to get personally ahead.
And the animation isn't half bad.

The violence and grittyness is being in a way that really builds tension, as apposed to being there for the sake of being there.

Overall, it's probably going to be one of the best shows this season

 No.118331

But then again, it might just become an overpowered isekai that keep repeating the same gag for 12 episodes. I guess we'll have to see, but the first episode had good direction

Second episode of Salaryman's Adventures was alright but the audio seemed strangely mixed and action animation felt a bit strange at parts. Felt like they tried to make it fluid but didn't really do that successfully, so it had a rigid fluidity to it if that makes sense? Regarding the audio, I kept having to either turn it up or down depending upon the moment in the show.
We did get a couple new cute girls, though, and it seems like the fantasy world's story will start progressing again with the mention of war and maybe wherever the twintailed shab went?

This post was originally going to be in my 'making a prestream OPED' thread, but I think it will work better here.

Dungeon Meshi is one of the few TV/streaming anime I've seen that is full 5.1 surround audio, although it gets condensed into stereo for seasonal stream (and presumably streaming websites). And the releases are dual audio. It's pretty strange to think we live in a world where English dubs are now released at the same time as the original Japanese. After listening for a minute it's not immediately offensive like most times I've tested out the dual audio, but I'll still stick with the Japanese.
Nonetheless, the stereo audio work is quite nice with the footsteps and metal armor clangs and the like.

It's a terrible series with an MC who was initially just badly written as a generic herbivore without any actual goals (despite whatever he says). His "projects" are as meaningless as his meandering is boring.
Having an MC jump through hoops to open a store because apparently he wants to run a store and then leave that store in the hands of others was infuriating. He doesn't need the store. He has an entire country. He doesn't gain anything from it and he's not enjoying it. He's just doing it because apparently he thought an isekai MC should run one?
But that's the entire story. He needs nothing and doesn't really derive pleasure from anything. He just exists.
His treatment of his harem is the same. It's not even the usual "kyaa, hentai!!" shenanigans. He's just doing nothing for hundreds upon hundreds of chapters. It's a narou-key garbage MCness brought to its logical insane conclusion.
The story and the other characters could be great - if not for everything being held back by this non-entity.

Well, that's the problem with me getting into it. Looking at it on anilist, 25 episodes for a season 2 is quite nice when the original was 12.
It's just so hard for me to get into isekai stuff. Or rather, staying past the first 2-3 episodes. Speaking of, I'm dropping the level 99 one. I like her chibi kuudere-ish faces, but the rest of the show just isn't cutting it out for me. Somehow I'm able to tolerate otome shows longer than general isekai, but I end up dropping them all the same.
I guess the characters in this are just too bland and there really isn't anything special here.

Yeah, but to me it's fun despite embodying nothing more than what it is. Though maybe more of my enjoyment of this season is derived from the shift in focus away from the MC towards the others, and also the promise seeded near the end of the last season that there's more of a reason for the MC to be the way he is rather than just laziness. One of my favorites of the season and probably one of the ones I'll go back and rewatch as well to see how much of what's been revealed so far I missed hints of earlier. It's more of a detective-ish show with an overarching plot than what you'd think of normally when you think of apothecary anime. There's some strange jizz in the upper right corner of your image.

It looks so weird to see anime characters move like Disney ones. I associate these exaggerated flamboyant movements too much with it. There's no reason to make them move that way either since Japanese people are typically very reserved in conversations.

Been leveling a shaman in SoD and it's piss easy so I decided to watch some new anime on the side with all the running downtime I have. I remember it from the stream and it didn't seem that offensive from the onset and I have to say I've been pleasantly surprised that it's pretty watchable and a bit entertaining. A bit more laid back than solo levelling but a similar theme of making it on one's own.

Actually, scratch that last remark. Rent does a bit more relying on others and actually has friends. Animation's not bad either.

Although similar to Solo Levelling the OP sucks

Or is that the one with the skeleton guy that stopped being a skeleton in the first episode? The boobs are nice, but yeah I don't think it's for me.

Solo levelling's kinda shit and fun. Though it got me wondering, if S-rank is the highest rank and Jibun Woo can't even stand against an A-rank how the heck did he manage to solo an S-rank boss that'd require at least a couple S-ranks to take down especially if the world's systems are a linear progression of ability where speed/durability/strength are all determined by one's rank...

Yeah, that's the one. He's still an undead, but a far cry from a skeleton. If you didn't like the premise I wouldn't say it's worth going out of your way to watch.

Heh, their names do kind of sound like that. So it's the greatest anime of all time, right?

Ranks are simply labels the author uses to say "this guy is strong" and "this guy is weak", but there's no underlying anything to support it. They're irrelevant.

It's sort of not surprising and I'm not really disapointed, but I'm kind of amazed at how little stuff happedned in "the wrong way to use healing magic"

This is the best part of the story. After this battle, the MC takes off on a journey, and it gets more boring with every arc.

Rose's story and character is interesting and the journey of the heros trying to find their way in another world is pretty bog standard and skipable

also I ended up dropping solo-leveling after it became apparent that it couldn't make the story entertaining

I've not found a single dungeons-appear-in-reality or tower-conquest story that had a story worth its time.
You'd probably be better off picking up a random cultivation webnovel.

Anime. The comic is still a good leveling story.
