I would expect a similar division in Japan. I have never been there, but I would not be surprised to find that outside of more open-minded areas, the majority of the country was free of such advertisements.

>>119893 Mascots were huge in the US in the 20th century but definitely fell out of favor for some reason, at least for franchises. You can see mascots in small local stores now and then, but if there's one in some town in Kansas with a population of 20,000 people it's probably not going to have much of a chance of getting posted on social media. Animals are definitely the most common.
Attractive human(oid) ones, though? I think that's one of those things that is a relic of a bygone era. When people drew porn of that 'Erin from Esurance" character 15 years ago it somehow made the company so upset that they canned the entire thing. To this day I still cannot fathom such a reaction, but I guess we've been able to see with AI and video games that people are still very paranoid, uncomfortable and even actively angry at stuff relating to male sexuality.
I have a feeling that mascots are a thing that will probably never return to being common as they once were and I really don't know why. My guess is that it's another superficial obsession about looking mature and serious, which is in fact a sign of immaturity. "We can't have a dinosaur eating a hamburger! People will think it's for kids and not sophisticated businessmen!"

>>119899 >Attractive human(oid) ones, though? I think that's one of those things that is a relic of a bygone era. I think this kind of misses a point. I think it's more so that advertising has become more person-centric in advertising, relying either on celebrities or a character. For example, Terry Crews in the Old Spice commercials, or Flow from Progressive, Jake from Statefarm, or the Liberty Mutual guy and his emu partner. Most of that advertising is through TV or online video ads, whereas mascots tend to be an in-person advertising thing.

カムロちゃん = Kamuro-chan
With that, I got the
JP Wiki page for this mascot.
Google Translated Summary Kamuro-chan is the former mascot character of Sakura City, Chiba Prefecture . With the completion of the city's Sakura Castle Town 400th anniversary project, [Kamuro-chan](1) graduated from the city's official character in 2020. The concept is "More than Yuru-kyara , but less than Moe-kyara!?" Kamuro-chan was a monster who lived in Sakura Castle a long time ago. In the Edo period book "Kokin Sakura Masako," there is a description of a "Kamuro" (a child with a bobbed hair) who was about 8 or 9 years old and would escape and play with pictures drawn on the cedar door of the castle's shoin(2) every night. Since the castle was demolished, it has been lying dormant in the castle ruins, but after more than 400 years, it has been "resurrected in modern times" as the project's image character to convey the charm of Sakura. The word "Kamuro" in Kamuro-chan's name refers to a child whose hair is cut to the shoulders. It is similar to what we would call a bobbed hair or bob cut in modern times. (1) Both Google and DeepL say "he" but I place Kamuro-chan in brackets instead, since the wiki page does not specify the mascot's sex. I even tried looking for specific identifying phrases in the untranslated text and could not find any. Everything points toward Kamuro-chan being female including attire, overall design, and voice. (2) shoin (書院) = audience hallAccording to the
Twitter page , since graduation in 2020, Kamuro-chan supposedly resumed activity as a private character and even has a cute little
merch shop . The lastest activity on the
Youtube channel is just 4 days ago.

>>122671 Great, I'm glad you got to see it! I never would have known about this mascot if not for the photos you shared.
Huge head mascots aren't for everyone, for sure. If those creep you out, then I suspect
kigurumi (着ぐるみ) masks will also get ya good! They essentially make the wearer look like a 1:1 scale doll when worn with a skinsuit and cosplay clothing. They can be creepy to many. Very different than the comfy onesies/pajamas that most people normally associate with the same term.
While thinking of mascots, I'm suddenly reminded of
Nyango Star , who's a talented heavy metal drummer that drew lots of eyes to his city/prefecture of Kuroishi, Aomori for his performances in an apple-cat costume haha.
The embedded YT video
should start at the 51-second mark, but if it doesn't work the no matter. Just wanted to save ya a minute.
