Is kissu familiar with "e-bikes" at all? They seem like an interesting concept and something I could benefit from using. To me the problem with bicycles (or walking) more for transportation to the store and such is that I'm worried about the ride home. Maybe I'll get too tired, or it gets too dark or or other such issues. Having a bicycle that I can pedal normally, but then turn on for assistance seems like a really nice idea. Though, I'd really want one I could load with groceries...

I think it depends on where you live, flat places like Denmark and Netherlands are famous for their bike commuters. On the contrary, where I live it's basically all mountains, so you won't find any grannies and businessmen in suits riding normal bikes here.

I don't think it's that different. Even in suburbia kids and teens still use bikes as transport.
And are E bikes that popular in the east? Are they more popular than they are in the west? Outside of couriers that is, it's easy to justify why they would use them.

I don't view them as a form of exercise, I just think riding a bike isn't that hard and if you are using them to go from place to place you may as well get the most from it.

Interesting. Nope, I need a lot more research. That stuff seems really expensive, though.
I don't know if it would be better to buy a regular bicycle and do the "conversion kit" thing or buy a bike that's electric from the start. But, yeah, more than anything I just need to do a bunch of research and I've been procrastinating about doing it.

I remember someone once posted a chart like this with Japanese runes and asked us to guess their meaning, but what about this anglo-saxon rune chart?
These are proto English letters, but they also have names that are concepts or objects. Well, most of them, some of them are apparently still mysteries to modern anthropologists.

I remember skimming over that one, a very old nordic carving right.
My interpretation of it is, since it's on a weapon, that it's onomatopoeia for laughter, since it sounds like a hearty laugh.

>As to their meanings there are plenty of inscriptions left in mostly understood languages - but the more esoteric meanings seem to be reconstructed or outright novel even, dating from the 19th-20th centuries even, so I tend to be wary of anyone asserting they know the meaning.
Well, I meant the more basic ones. The two M-shaped things are quite interesting in how they're distinct from each other and how M is used today. M being "Man". I don't think that one is up to much interpretation. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mannaz
I never thought about the carving thing, but it makes sense. I don't really know much about this stuff, I just thought it was interesting to find some patterns or similarities and have people guess.

Yeah, from a spear. Pic interprets it in the following way:
>The sequence ‘I erilaz of Asugisalaz, I am called Muha’ is followed by some sort of battle-cry: gagaga gin(n)u ga ‘many times ga’.
This is distinct from gægogæ, which later on references gagaga but is hypothesized to be a separate thing, meaning "password," "consent." Heh.

That's because there isn't much to discuss from that period outside of the movies, and the movies are pretty straightforward. The EU in the early days had a bunch of crappy novels and cash-in comics that are better left forgotten. Those, plus the movies themselves, kind of limit the stuff that can be crammed into that time period. There is good stuff like Shadow of the Empire and Rogue Squadron, but they're not overly consequential. And the less said about Disney's rewrites of the canon the better.

There's a lot more content focused on what happened after Episode 6, but it's still made up of a lot of hit-or-miss novels/comics from that era between the trilogies when popular interest wasn't being as actively drawn to the series. This is probably the actual least discussed time period. I hardly ever see people talk about the New Jedi Order or Legacy periods beyond someone occasionally calling them bad.

The prequels, and especially episodes 2 and 3, really ramped up the EU with a ton of supplementary material designed and released alongside the movies. I think episode 2 had six different games all released within the movie's release window. So even if the prequels themselves are horribly written, the overall amount of content that has more than fringe appeal for that period is much higher than for the OT period. Also, it's easier to make critiques and quote hilariously bad lines than to formulate meaningful praise.

The Old Republic era is kind of an outlier in that 95% of its discussion is centered on the two KotOR games, which have a large and very dedicated fanbase anda ton of stuff worth talking about, with 2 in particular being a gold mine. They're practically movie-level entries within those circles and the other stuff from the period like the Exar-kun war are basically just side notes.

 No.2509

>>2507
Old Republic feels like a completely different series.

The youtube crowd recently discovered the Yuzhaan Vong arc and seemed to like it, at least in the context of the series doing something different.

Talking about it like this make it sounds like the EU was the American version of a WSJ series

There's a minor hurricane (Category 1 which is weakest while still having the label) hitting the Western US and Mexico and there might be some interesting pictures coming from it. Here's one with Death Valley flooding, one of the driest places in the US that's also known for being the hottest place on Earth. Of course it doesn't take much to flood a desert, but it's bizarre to see.

Whats your favorite set of playing card?

There is more than you think, and even if you have no interest in card games of any kind, they're nice pieces of art from the culture and setting of their time.

I'm sure most of you don't care about the pre-industrial royal decks, but if you're from an English speaking country, you may not know that you use a French deck and that the German, Spanish-Italian and Portuguese (†) have/had different suits.

Pic related is from 1933, and is a war deck, it feels more modern than a lot of card packs produced today, which often try to invoke feelings of the past. My brain is so fried by modern media that my first thought to seeing pre-80s Americana was "Wow, this is like Fallout!", dumbly taking a couple of moments before realizing this is the iconography Fallout, especially OG fallout was recreating.

Asians have their own decks, and East Asians have several, I'm sure you know about Hanafuda and Sakura but the Chinese may have invented playing cards entirely!

I really really like how Spanish cards are decorated. The aces almost always have a unique design (sword is my favorite), in some cases the 2s and 3s do as well, and middle numbers have stuff like varying orientations and little props to fill empty space. Very cool stuff.

Not exactly related to playing cards, but I still have a whole bunch of Lion King cards from Burger King back in the day. I was obsessed with Lion King when it came out and BK had a licensing thing with Disney to include cards in their kid's meals and I successfully pestered my mom for us to eat there a lot when it was going on. I remember the stores being decorated with Lion King stuff as well.
Anyway, the cards were really nice and had two sides. Some of the cards had character information on the back while others were part of a larger image that you could match like in the upper right of this image. I still have a lot of these cards, maybe I can go dig them out if anyone is interested (not my pic). Unfortunately as a kid I taped together the ones that produced a large image and that damaged them.
Fond memories of a time when America could produce beautiful animation...

Well. So.
I did meth for the first time today, it was fun, but not as much as I expected. Five minutes after snorting I had some really nice bodily sensations and euphoria, but then... Felt normal for the rest of the time, well, I don't really know what's my normal anymore because I'm always on ADHD meds, which are amphetamines.
So, yeah, I guess my normal is focusing on something stupid. Two days without sleep now.
I don't know why I'm writing this, sorry if it's not the right place for it. I feel a bit sad.
Well, maybe I should be glad I didn't crash real bad and felt an insane urge to redose... and fry my brain in the process. Well, I should be still feeling it since it lasts very long. I'm kinda scared now.
