BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES

I've been thinking for a while about them, and in the future at some point (especially at the /qa/ mansion) I'd like to do some beekeeping for harvesting honey. When it comes to the usual fears you'd have around bees, it's actually not too bad based on what I've read in terms of getting stung if you know what you're doing. And in time it seems like your body, assuming if doesn't develop an allergic reaction, can develop a more immune response to bee venom rendering a large part of bee stings useless. Also somehow
(https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29956606/) bee venom can be used to treat HIV, so when it comes to the maids we won't need to worry at the /qa/ mansion.

What got me interested in the concept is that recently I've been getting into using honey as my primary sweetener vs sugar. Initially it was sparked just by a taste preference after trying some local honey at my farmer's market. However after looking into it a bit more, honey has a fair bit of health benefits as a sweetener compared to equivalent amounts of sugar. Like its anti-inflammatory and anti-biotic properties containing all sorts of vitamins and minerals that granulated sugar doesn't. Not to mention that honey consumption can help as an exposure to pollen for improving tolerance and helping reduce allergies!

Also unlike sugar, honey can have its own unique taste that's separate from just its normal taste. The honey I got hooked on was a special lavender flavor, which is made by having your bees primarily making honey via lavender pollen/nectar. It's quite hard to set up! Especially since your bees can travel up to 6 miles away from their hive in search of pollinating flowers. The end result though is delicious and a nice relaxant in the mornings to help me focus. There's some other nice flavors too but going through all of them would probably be wasteful, but the ones that do deserve a mention are the honey hot sauces made by infusing honey with some hot pepper. I've got one infused with habanero, and even though I'm sorta wimpy when it comes to spice I could lather that on some chicken and eat it fine without my mouth being set on fire. It really accentuates the taste and enhances at time juiciness of meat.

I think with all the greatness of honey and how it can be produced in your own home out in nature, investigating and learning beekeeping would be a great skill. Within the efforts one could take towards being self-sufficient, being able to make your own sweetener would have to be pretty high up there, I'd assume. So hopefully kissu's still got that interest of their own and can take some inspiration from this thread whenever summer next comes around or maybe share any specialized knowledge if you've got any.

It Could Happen To You

The future comes one day at a time.
R:3 / I:0

It's almost there

So, what ur expectations? Girls wearing almost nothing, fountains with ppl acting silly around it (lolis wearing ah just panties) , sleeping with window open, feeling how its warm right after the sunset, poplar pollen flying around like a local sakura (already intact), sweet smell of wind and most of all, feeling how closer and closer autumn comes day by day, with darker evenings, redder sunsets, fluffier clouds and ghostly appearing snow above us... as for me.

Have you watched anything neat on youtube or similar sites lately? Don't just link it, mention why you like it!
This is a re-enactment of the American Psycho dubs man scene with Weird Al and Huey Lewis. There's some very nice attention to detail and the humor is great. Somehow it's 7 years old and I never saw it.

Is kissu familiar with "e-bikes" at all? They seem like an interesting concept and something I could benefit from using. To me the problem with bicycles (or walking) more for transportation to the store and such is that I'm worried about the ride home. Maybe I'll get too tired, or it gets too dark or or other such issues. Having a bicycle that I can pedal normally, but then turn on for assistance seems like a really nice idea. Though, I'd really want one I could load with groceries...

I remember someone once posted a chart like this with Japanese runes and asked us to guess their meaning, but what about this anglo-saxon rune chart?
These are proto English letters, but they also have names that are concepts or objects. Well, most of them, some of them are apparently still mysteries to modern anthropologists.

There's a minor hurricane (Category 1 which is weakest while still having the label) hitting the Western US and Mexico and there might be some interesting pictures coming from it. Here's one with Death Valley flooding, one of the driest places in the US that's also known for being the hottest place on Earth. Of course it doesn't take much to flood a desert, but it's bizarre to see.

Whats your favorite set of playing card?

There is more than you think, and even if you have no interest in card games of any kind, they're nice pieces of art from the culture and setting of their time.

I'm sure most of you don't care about the pre-industrial royal decks, but if you're from an English speaking country, you may not know that you use a French deck and that the German, Spanish-Italian and Portuguese (†) have/had different suits.

Pic related is from 1933, and is a war deck, it feels more modern than a lot of card packs produced today, which often try to invoke feelings of the past. My brain is so fried by modern media that my first thought to seeing pre-80s Americana was "Wow, this is like Fallout!", dumbly taking a couple of moments before realizing this is the iconography Fallout, especially OG fallout was recreating.

Asians have their own decks, and East Asians have several, I'm sure you know about Hanafuda and Sakura but the Chinese may have invented playing cards entirely!

Well. So.
I did meth for the first time today, it was fun, but not as much as I expected. Five minutes after snorting I had some really nice bodily sensations and euphoria, but then... Felt normal for the rest of the time, well, I don't really know what's my normal anymore because I'm always on ADHD meds, which are amphetamines.
So, yeah, I guess my normal is focusing on something stupid. Two days without sleep now.
I don't know why I'm writing this, sorry if it's not the right place for it. I feel a bit sad.
Well, maybe I should be glad I didn't crash real bad and felt an insane urge to redose... and fry my brain in the process. Well, I should be still feeling it since it lasts very long. I'm kinda scared now.

Have you seen any cool wild animals lately? (if you're in a city, maybe there's a cool pigeon or rat or something?)

I saw five, yes FIVE of these guys flying around last week but forgot to make a thread about it. I can hear one of them outside right now and it's pretty nice. They're not as big as a hawk, but there's still a noticeable size difference between them and most birds. I once saw one catch a cicada in the air and land to eat it. Pretty cool.

Something everyone should experience is to be in at least a semi-wooded area and to sit outside during a windy rainfall and feel refreshed from the soothing atmosphere. You don't need many trees, just enough for a good amount of rustling sound.
I wonder why it is that things like rain has such healing properties to the mind when it can be quite dangerous to us health-wise if we didn't have shelter.

If we go to Mars, what people forget is that mars has very little in the way of nutrients in the soil or even nitrogen in the air. Almost every nutrient we need will have to come from earth in some way, even the nutrients that go into the plants that we grow there. What does this mean? It means that everything is going to have to be reused, everything. We can't afford to let bodies be put into the ground and waste 70kg of nutrients that we brought up from earth, humans will have to be eaten or else the colony won't be able to sustain itself. Everything has to be part of a sustainable cycle of nutrition.

Just came back from my summer exploring.

Today I visited my local graveyard. I was pretty surprised to see that it was built more like a tourist attraction with a section of houses that rich people built for their families, some nice ponds, nice gardens for the jewish people and in the back a nicely built section for WW2 veterans with an old 105mm howitzer on display.

Not sure if I'll visit it again any time soon though, maybe in a few decades.

Is it moral to kill if the lives lost result in the saving of a considerably larger number of others?

I thought about this after watching some videos on Chronic Wasting Disease, which is a transmissible neurodegenerative prion disease among deer. Principally, the main method of containment revolves around culling infected populations and maintaining surveillance on spread.

Could you foresee there ever being such an infectious disease among humans where the moral thing to do would be to kill infected people?

With all these crypto explosions and stock market bull runs, I always say to myself "Dang, sucks that I missed out, guess that was a once in a lifetime oppurtunity". However, as I look around more I see that these just keep on happening left and right, and it makes me wonder, do I just need to be more perceptive so that I can catch these trends early instead of accepting things as they go? It really seems like the key to getting rich is more about paying attention to trends more than getting lucky.

Space X's Rocket, Starship is going to have 33 engines in the first stage and 9 in the second stage producing around 80MN of thrust and could send 150t to Low Earth Orbit in theory(or so they claim) but the number of engines keeps changing(getting bigger). Saturn IV had 5 in the first stage, 5 in the second and 1 in the third producing a bit over 40MN of thrust and was capable of sending 140t to Low Earth Orbit. So for half the Thrust Saturn V could send 95% of the payload that Starship can to Low Earth Orbit, and Starship has never even proved that it can do this. The engines for Saturn IV were designed in the 50's too(but they use Kraut Space Magick I guess).

Much of this is due to how awful the design of Starship is, it's a meme con, the Hyperloop of space(or the sky so far) if you will. Additionally, I don't believe Starship will be capable of making the landing that it is planned for it. They have had trouble sending the Starship second stage only 50km and landing it, they only managed it once and for all the talk of testing reusability they never flew it again which shows what shape it was in, sending the whole thing to orbit and back and then sending it back up without severe repair is something completely different.

The Problem is the design, not only does the poor form and design of it mean that it spends more energy going up but it also means it will be under quite a bit of stress coming down. The Larger a surface is the more friction it creates and the more heat and pressure it will be subject too, the ship itself is not rigid or reinforced in anyway either while at the same time as being fat it is also long(and that length will create uneven pressure and friction), that is ALOT of stress for a hollow shell of thin steel strips to handle, the fuel within makes it little better than a time bomb as well, sure it will pressure the interior to degree but it will not be enough and a rupture may prove to be catastrophic. And that is before this hulk even hits the ground. This is a lot of money to spend on a meme.

While the trailer for this doesn't look like anything special, the brain behind it is the same that brought forwards the widely acclaimed (by critics and imageboards) Bladerunner 2049, and he's been stated in the past as being a fan of the Dune series. A late summer morning, wrapped up in a dream

Chapter 1: Turn of a new day
Dead at night is when I woke up.
It was as the clock stroke 12, the turning of a new day, my wake came about. Woken up from yet another bad dream, I stepped to the kitchen to freshen up and grab a bite.
I warmed up in a pan some of yesterday's leftover ground beef, the crispyness of the pan recooking made it pretty delicious.
I mostly watched youtube, chatted, and try to take my mind off the dreams and the drowsieness.
My windows, now closed for over a day since a heatwave left the apartment hot and filled with CO2. After some more relaxation, I fell asleep again.
