 No.786

Has Kissu followed the Olympics at all? Apparently, Simone Biles, a 4 time Olympic Gold Medalist and US athlete, had to pull out of the Olympics because the ADHD medication they take, Ritalin, is banned in Japan.

 No.787

I'm surprised you can even take ritalin in sport competitons

Apparently she had a medical exemption for the 2016 Olympic games. I would imagine with all of the drug testing that regularly goes on at the Olympics that they would be able to tell if someone was on something anyways.

 No.789

>As mentioned above, all medications containing stimulants are prohibited. This includes Adderall, a standard medication used to treat ADHD symptoms in the US. (Update as of March 2018: Vyvanse and Dexedrine have also been added to the prohibited list.) If you bring Adderall into Japan for any reason, you risk arrest and imprisonment. Currently, the only drug used to treat ADHD that is legal in Japan is Concerta. While Ritalin is available in Japan to treat sleep disorders, it is not prescribed to ADHD patients.

Didn't know any of that. I've known that the equivalent of taking steroids for mental tasks is Ritalin so it's somewhat surprising that it's considered a narcotic in Japan and somewhat surprising that they gave someone an exception for it.

I keep meaning to look at 4chan for /sp/ or /wsg/ threads for highlights but I still haven't. I wonder if I missed any crazy injuries or anything

 No.791

Why drugs bad?
They should take whatever they want, make it more exciting

cause sports isn't about the game or strategy, it's so people can gawk at how strong/coordinated humans. If you add science to it then the culture of the olympics is no longer about the strength of people, but the strengths of science and the support that technology gives.

 No.793

>>791
Pretty much >>792, and if it were to just become a science show there'd be no competition from any countries aside from the major superpowers.

 No.794

>>791
because once you allow drugs people wouldn't be able to compete natty, also increasing performance momentarily at the expense of long term health consequences goes against mainstream sport ethics

i think there should be a separate league where people would go full retard with drugs and cybernetic prostheses though. there's value in laughing at people going too far
