It's not quite summer yet, but the heat really sucks. Gonna turn into a puddle if it gets any hotter
R:4 / I:2
I saw a bumper sticker today that said "birds aren't real" and it made me realize I'd never actually seen a bird in real life before. Why did you trick me like this, kissu?
R:4 / I:2
cute piccie of a bird i found on twitter
R:8 / I:1
How warm does it have to get before swimming becomes viable?
R:7 / I:3

Is it summer already

Or is it still spring? I my area summer comes first day of june. So its summer.

I learned from Police in a Pod that this is what a sketch artist is supposed to do - prioritize getting the details right over realism. Glad to see quality art get the respect it deserves!

So, speculating about sci-fi and stuff, maybe not quite fit here but.
Imagine u suspect a natural predator or something super dangerous for you highly possible, how should i put it, following you, highly possible spying on you, what you gonna do? And you afraid to cause panic. And you possibly not quite sure.
R:8 / I:3
Got to see an American legend today. They gave me a tiny whistle that's shaped like it too
R:27 / I:5
Do you have a favorite spice?
R:10 / I:2
i dislike spring because it is muddy and wet and gross and now there are lots more bugs around but at least there are some anime to look forward to
R:14 / I:3
Can't believe it's spring.
If anyone wants to make a sticky for the board go ahead.
R:7 / I:6
Dumbest member of the family decided to do spring cleaning today and burn some brush. We had 25mph wind. He walked away. Tree caught on fire and almost burned down our best barn.

He's claiming he set the tree on fire on purpose.
R:1 / I:1
hahahahahaha nice one!
R:4 / I:3
Welcome to another Spring!

A philosopher once told me:
Birds are very important

This season Spring ends on Wednesday June 20th

Being unable to plant anything because of wind is less cool. (CURSE YOU NATURE! Let me get stuff in the ground already!)

Religion

Does kissu think that religion provides more of a benefit towards society overall than it does cause harm through intolerance and dogma? I've met and seen some really insufferably religious people throughout my life that would happily take away individual freedoms and liberties should they ever have the power to do so because of what their religious texts say. In that sense, I've been quite soured on it to where people bringing up their religious beliefs can annoy me. On the other hand however, I think the base of what religion is supposed to provide, a sort-of "guide" to living and goal for happiness, is extremely valuable. For those aimless or carrying extreme existential dread, I feel that it can be a lifesaver because it gives you purpose and something to strive towards.

I just wish that religion could exist with all its beneficial qualities while being free of all the persecution and downsides that come along with it.

do you think the big goose would notice if i took one the little ones home?
R:10 / I:1
Have you ever or would you want to go to a Renaissance Fair? For those that don't know, in the US (and presumably elsewhere) there are festivals where people, uhh.. dress and act like old medieval (kinda) Europe and there's food and crafts and performances and stuff. It's definitely not historically accurate to any time or location. The people that work there are in character, but you don't have to dress up or roleplay, but it's more fun if you do.
It's quite famous for being the environment with the highest concentration of dorks and weirdos, so it's not as stressful as most public gatherings.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/writers-guild-issues-rules-potential-strike-1235402387/

Apparently the Writers Guild of America is getting pissy about things and are threatening a strike if their demands aren't met. One of the things that'd immediately happen if this were to occur would be that late night hosts would pretty much immediately have no material and be off the air, so sucks for the people that actually still have cable I guess? Aside from that it could potentially impact movies and TV for Hollywood and elsewhere across the country. What gets me curious is what does the WGA even do? Could they not be replaced by independent writers or AI or something? If these are the people responsible for churning out scripts for modern western flicks/cable tv then I have to wonder if it wouldn't be better if they do strike and take themselves out of the idea pool for media. Probably would be better if that were the case.

Also are guilds for writers like this a thing more exclusive to America because of how massive the entertainment industry here is, or are they a commonality to be found in other countries too including Japan?

It was a nice rainy, relaxing day. This time of day it would normally be dark, but for whatever reason it's brighter than it should be and it's really pretty to look up from my window and only see tree tops instead of ugly houses
also photoshop has a brush that works remarkably well as leaf silhouettes

could the tale of Ozymandias be interpretted as the philosophy of nhilism or would that be reading too much into what the poem is trying to say?

I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

To other ESLs, does your native otaku community have any interesting idiosyncratic practices?

A few years ago, a new practice developed in Spanish-subbed OP/ED videos: rather than keep the subs at the bottom and/or top, they were instead both moved to the center of the screen. Large, bold italic sans serif for the translation, with smaller non-bold romaji below it. In many cases they are AMVs as well, rather than using the pre-existing video or a static image. Pic is a good example, which on top of the above has a watermark and is at 360p max, because of course it is. Compare it to these other three traditional English lyrics videos:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yq6VhQGz-no
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeRksGNmk0w
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6JB3monBI4
I searched for OPs in Portuguese, Italian, French, Indonesian, Thai, Arabic, at a glance it doesn't seem like they do this. The Chinese do have something like it, it appears:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9IaLy7IN9M

Rather innovative imo. It looks like it started to hit the mainstream about four-five years ago, in great part thanks to a certain "meena♡" who had already been using the formula back in 2014:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlLVz75Ag_s
They've got nearly a total of two hundred million views spread throughout a hundred and four videos, the most popular of which is Naruto's OP3 from five years ago standing at 64M views:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-hzTmeCqN0
You can see it's a more primitive form because it doesn't yet feature romaji like the current standard. Neat.

The nice thing about spring is that the sun is (usually) still up when I wake up. The downside however is that it's bright as hell outside when I go to bed.

If while reading Animorphs you spend a lot of time imagining what it would be like to be controlled by a Yeerk, getting to know it and its circumstances, empathising with it even as you are aware that it is a soldier of the enemy of Earth, and showing it human experiences... doesn't that make someone an M? Like a really, really, really big M?

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Accept the Singularirty

At one point I was worried about AI being able to replace the capabilities of other people, but upon using it and adapting it into my lifestyles I've found that it behaves in a similar way to the hypothetical brain-computer interface where you can upload skills into your head or be able to directly interface with technology.
Through introducing a chatbot Q&A style interface it's much easier to acquire information, much like you could as a kid and you could ask your parents simple questions like "why is the sky blue"(and they would say Rayleigh scattering of course). Instead of having to hunt for knowledge in books you can pick it out and have it read out to you in numerous styles.

ChatGPT lets me learn a lot of concepts which I've been unable to figure out on my own. Though I might have figured them out through working with industry pros who picked it up from other pros I've been able to put the knowledge in my own hands solely through autodidacticism.
It's ability to write out examples helps greatly for people who pick things up better through written examples than they do from reading documentation and you can ask it questions and it will do it's best to answer.

So to put it in a simply, AI seems to be a tool which is best to draw out the latent potential of humanity and push people into situations where they're capable of learning anything that their brains allow them to.
At which point we can ask the question of what is done more efficiently by human and computer... since we are fundamentally different engines... one based on computation of electric signals and the other chemical transfers between neurons.

Weatherman said this will be the last cool day we have, probably until Fall. This is the worst time of the year for local weather because it's a full season of pain ahead. I still have trouble believing people willing immigrated and settled here before air conditioning was invented.

Are these shimeji mushrooms? They seem to look like that but aren't fresh anymore.
R:2 / I:1
I think perhaps the best thing about Spring here is that I can have my window open and hear birds. Once summer hits the outside turns into an oven and no sensible person with air conditioning would ever open the window again.
Someone needs to fix this. I want to hear birds outside, but not feel air baked in the ovens of hell rush into my room.

Maybe I need an electronic unicycle. I'm a non-driver, but maybe unicycles are the answer?
My area is kind of hilly and bumpy, though, so maybe it's just a fast ticket to Faceplant Land.

If we ever did get the technology to find and travel to another inhabited planet it would probably be less interesting that we think it would be. Most likely we would be incredibly worried about bringing disease to these denizens and of disrupting their lives and ecosystems, so we would just watch from space and never actually set foot on the planet.

Hardly worth the effort really. May as well get rid of all of these space programs and save the money.

The FBI has seized bitcoin from the paid ransom from a big US pipeline company to hackers in Russia. I'm quite curious to see how this was possible, and of course I wonder if this will affect its value. Personally I've hated this crypto thing so I wouldn't be upset to see it collapse, but this probably isn't enough and people will forget about it.

Kissu how do I stop being racist. I genuinely have a searing hatred for blacks, middle easterners, indians, and some asians. I have a bit of quandary, though: I'm not at all racist towards people. In social interactions my brain shifts to autopilot and I just say or do whatever without any bias or malintent, but when I'm on my own, left to my own thoughts I can't stop myself from thinking about how much I hate other races, and especially how much I hate interracial couples, and depictions thereof.

This might seem like a shitpost, but I genuinely don't want to be this way and yet I am. What the heck do I do???
R:3 / I:2
I think I've finally been able to get over my self hatred and I know I can do anything.
Arigato and maybe I'll come back in a year or less, but I think I've grown. I don't need to go into details but I feel like I can just go out into the world and conquer what little sliver of it that I can.
