Is it better to space out good things or to engage with them as they are found?
I ask this because in the past 3 weeks I have finished Natsu no Arashi, Penguindrum, and Mahoromatic. I think less of Natsu no Arashi despite really liking it because I was quickly blown away by Penguindrum. Similarly I found Mahoromatic to be fun and well made, but lacked the impact the other two had. If I hadn't watched these shows so close together these connections wouldn't have been made. Is there a reason to not intentionally space things out or a way to take advantage of this?

It's challenging for me to binge watch and truly engage with a show these days so when the stars align and I actually run into something great I tend to just go with it and indulge. Spacing out is my default because watching one or two episodes max of something a day is all I have time, energy or attention span for currently.

Recently I got really into Texhnolyze for the first time, it hit me at the perfect time and I just got really invested in it and watched the latter half of the show in one sitting. I really do feel like the experience of diving deep into a single work is more important to me than juggling several at once. Some of the best experiences I've had with media were marathoning stuff in a cool, dark room, basically losing whole nights to a visual novel like F/SN or a high-tension dramatic show like Kaiji or Code Geass.

In a world in which extremes are constantly spotlighted, what does it take for media to be truly 'edgy'?

File:1469015668053.jpg (1.79 MB,854x4316)

Do you define "truly edgy" as something that addresses dark aspects of society that the rest of people intentionally avert their eyes from or something that features gratuitous suffering purely for the shock value?

>>114007
If you're on the right and like anime, it's a great medium untainted by western degeneracy and hated by liberals who can't control it.
If you're on the left and like anime, it's affirming of your alternative lifestyle and hated by the right for being immoral.

>Do you define "truly edgy" as something that addresses dark aspects of society that the rest of people intentionally avert their eyes from or something that features gratuitous suffering purely for the shock value?
Neither of those is really sufficient - a serious well-executed social commentary isn't usually going to be called edgy, and neither is a comedic gore-fest. An edgy series would be more like one that has the MC go on a brutal murder spree and presents it as if he is heroic for doing so.

 No.114075

Edgy is a part of emotional spectrum. It's somewhat the opposite of comfy. It's goes with conflict, tension, stress, activity. You know, feeling on edge?
It's not strictly about extremes I think. Anyway I think this track is pretty edgy.

 No.114076

>>114021
If you keep adding your own conditions to make it harder to qualify, then the answer is no, there will never be anything you think is edgy again.

I'm not super big on buyfag stuff, I try not to accrue dead weight, but if money was no option and I had a place to store it all I'd probably pick up a ton of figs of my favorite characters, and build a library of manga/artbooks. I thought it initially hilarious that BG3 was so massively underestimated, but another neat part of those estimations is that the negative crunch culture press seems to be actually having an effect on improving workplaces with that line about their publisher not wanting to push them too hard to make sure the game gets on pc.

You know, I was just thinking about this since I've been using Anki a whole lot recently to learn and remember kanji, but daily flash cards that you use to recall and keep fresh learned material seems like a pretty good way not to lose and waste knowledge. For instance, I don't often use all the theorems, lemmas, formulas, equations, methods, etc. from back when I was really deep into studying mathematics. However, if I made or used an Anki deck for it I could probably help myself to retain a fair bit of those couldn't I? Has anyone on kissu tried this, or are there better methods for retaining that kind of mathematical knowledge?

>It's recommended that you divide those into steps and make each as simple and as to the point as possible, even if it sounds unintuitive
Actually thaat makes perfect sense to me when I account for the large study guides I used to write for classes back when I was still in Uni. Kinda wonder if the knowledge can disappear if there are any better ways to approach memorization than rote, since I've always wanted at some point to try going back to school to get my masters.

 No.113852

File:cap_[Chihiro]_Tonari_no_Ka….jpg (305.35 KB,1920x1080)

I used anki for pretty much everything my first time at university (for religious studies, not mathematics). In my experience, information encoded only through flashcards quickly feels disjointed and compartmentalised. You can recall the basic idea when prompted by anki, but the contours begin to feel fuzzy, you lose the big picture, you no longer make or remember connections to other topics, and recall otuside of anki can still be difficult. There are also some pitfalls for long-term anki study. This one has an easy solution, but if you don't make reverse cards, you'll find yourself in a situation where your recall only goes one way. You can see a word and remember the definition, but you often won't be able to recall the word from the definition. My advice would be to set aside time to actively revisit these topics rather than relying solely on anki.

Anyway, I did return to university recently (for mathematics, actually) and I don't use anki anymore. Instead, I mostly just memorise my notes. It's more time-consuming, but well-structured notes are not that difficult to memorise. Sometimes I make physical flashcards for major theorems and definitions to make sure I get the wording right, though. One nice thing about physical flashcards is that you can use them in different ways, like pulling two cards out and trying to find a connection between them.

RF had some nice bachelorettes through the series, but I found more attraction in the widowed mothers or older sisters of the romancable cast. The latest being the kitsune Misasagi in 5. Her brother is romancable but she herself is off limits. It's a god damn tragedy that you cant romance the fox and give Hina a little sister. Would have made the game worth it.

Ah geez, now that you've replied to my post I remember that it was Rune Factory 2 with the eye-covered-with-hair girl.
And yes, the moms and older girls were great. I did hear RF5 made it even worse with more would-be candidates that you can't romance. I didn't really care for RF4's, though. I need to get around playing RF5. I heard DLC was in development so I didn't play it at release, but then said DLC was cancelled which was supposedly going to make a few characters marriable...
I really liked Shino in RF3 and she would have been my choice. The game even gives you a teasing "if only you weren't so young" or something mini-date that still angers me to this day. WHY?!
